The Story of Triplets Separated After a Brutal Experiment

There are some experiments, although everyone is curious about the results of that experiment, these experiments are not carried out because they do not comply with the ethical rules. Of course, in some cases, scientists who risk taking this risk go beyond ethical rules and carry out various experiments. Today we will tell you the story of three siblings who were born as quadruplets and one of them died during childbirth. The event that completely changed the lives of these triplets begins at birth.

On July 12, 1961, a young single mother gave birth to quadruplets. One of the babies dies during birth. Triplets born in a healthy state are sent to the Louise Wise Adoption Center in New York after the inspections at the hospital.

Experiment on triplets begins from this point

Triplets are given to 3 specially selected families after a short stay at the adoption center. The child-rearing and socioeconomic status of these families are different from each other. Because they have been adopted before, the adoption center has the necessary information about these families. All these processes, Dr. He proceeds under the supervision of a psychiatrist named Peter Neubauer.

Families are also unaware of this experiment

Families take their children and start raising them, but they are unaware that they are in an experiment. However, the adoption center sends researchers to the residences in each province to monitor the development, intelligence and behavior of the children. Although these studies initially made the families suspicious, they did not dwell on it much because they received the answer that “it is an ordinary study to measure the development of adopted children”.

When siblings turn 19, events begin to unfold

All three siblings grow up in different residences, calling different people as mom and dad. They do not know about each other, but some strange events have started to happen. Attending New York’s SUNY Sullivan Vocational School, Robert gets into a fight, sometimes with strange happenings. People he doesn’t know mistake him for someone named Eddy and act like they know him. Some of his friends, who knew that he was Robert, even started to call him “Eddy”.

Robert and Eddy, who met through their mutual friends after these strange events, came to a middle and learned that they were both born on the same date and were adopted from the Luise Wise Adoption Center. As if it was not enough that they were almost identical to each other in terms of image, the story of the brothers who were interested in wrestling and liked movies was reported in a local newspaper.

The third sibling joins the twins separated from each other

After reading the news in the local newspaper, David saw almost exactly two people. Moreover, their date of birth and the institution they were adopted in were also identical. Thus the three brothers; Robert, Eddy and David have come to a conclusion. The three brothers, who often spent time together and got to know each other, later opened a restaurant they called “Triplets”.

The triplets began to investigate who separated them

After the triplets came to a middle, they began to investigate who separated them. The result was a psychiatrist named Peter Neubauer. In this experiment to understand what behavior and characteristics the triplets would have if they grew up in different conditions, these triplets were not the only victims. It was later discovered that Neubauer had separated many twins and triplets for experimentation.

The result of the experiment is unknown even today

Neubauer’s experiment was completed in 1980. But the results of the experiment are not fully known even today. The data, which is thought to be over 11 thousand pages, of the experiment, whose ethical background and scientific value is the subject of debate, were sealed by the center and Neubauer until 2065. Neubauer’s concern was that the public would react harshly to him because of the ethical nature of the experiment.

Neubauer sealed the data for this reason and died in 2008 at the age of 94. The data currently stored at Yale University is over 11,000 pages. 10,000 pages of this information were published, but the information cannot be evaluated scientifically because it was published with a very significant censorship. It is necessary to wait for the year 2065 to see all the details about the experiment.

What happened to the triplets?

After the triplets came to a middle and started doing things together, they realized that they didn’t get along so well. Spiritual issues began to arise in all three of them. Robert left the restaurant to become a lawyer. Eddy, on the other hand, could not cope with his experiences and committed suicide in 1995 at the age of 33. At least three of the people in this experiment by Neubauer are known to have committed suicide.

Going back to the siblings, Robert currently lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two children. He became a lawyer as he aimed. David lives in New Jersey with his wife and two children. He works for an insurance company.

In 2018, the story of these three brothers was the subject of a biography/documentary movie called “Three Familiar Strangers”.
